A word from our President
"In recent times, automated offsite backup services have become all the rage.
In our investigation of these services, we couldn't choose a provider that we felt
comfortable with. Sometimes the options were confusing, other times we were concerned
as to the safety of our data, or the viability of the company involved. As the president
of an IT Company that takes care of thousands of customers' most important pieces
of information, I felt it necessary to create a solution that is customer friendly,
easy to use, doesn't cost alot but provides the best possible protection of data
in the marketplace." — Charles Shiver, President of Offsite Data Backup
How Offsite Data Backup (ODB) Protects Your Data
ODB leverages well known and stable infrastructure including Amazon's Cloud Computing
(EC2 and S3) Datacenters in order to provide you with the best possible protection
of your information and the greatest amount of reliability at a low cost. For clients
that are concerned about the Patriot Act, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA and other compliance
requirements we have fully independent backup servers on the East and West Coasts
of the USA, as well as in Europe and Canada.
Your Data is ALWAYS Encrypted
The password you used to sign up with our service is used to encrypt your data on
our servers using at minimum 256-bit AES Encryption. If you're running the Advanced
or Deluxe version of our service, you can choose to backup data with an optional
encryption key, 128-bit security, with Twofish, DESede or AES encryption. Be sure
to guard this key with your life - if you lose it, we will have to generate special data recovery key for you.
Reliable Software and Stellar Reporting Tools
We've spent a considerable amount of time researching backup software that we can
license for use with this service. We believe we've made the right decision in partnering
with Ahsay Systems in Hong Kong. They've been through five iterative versions of
their backup software and in our tests, the backup and restores on various systems,
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, file backups, MySQL servers, etc., we've
seen flawless backups and restores.
After each backup completes, a detailed report is delivered to you via email. Historical
reports are available online, as needed.
Company Backgrounder
ODB was founded in 1999 as a subsidiary of JAWZ Inc., a NASDAQ-listed Information
Technology and Security Professional Services firm. At the time, the service bore
the name 'Secure Network Storage' and licensed HARBOUR backup software from Beta
Systems AG, the core technology behind the original ODB system. Two years later,
the core licensing and services were transferred to Group Telecom (now Bell Canada)
and the project was shelved. In late-2001, the right to market a service similar
to the original ODB was realized by a former Executive of JAWZ Inc. and thus the
ODB service you are using today was born.
The company was founded to bring safe, dependable, easy-to-use backup to the masses.
In 2004, ODB received $1.7 million of working capital from SSID AG, a Venture Capital
Company based in Bern, Switzerland. |
